nice wine
I wrote this with my girls in mind. I picture us sat round the table for hours gossiping and telling stories; all that fun stuff you get up to when you’re so platonically in love with a group of people that you never want to get up from the table or for the nice wine to run out. The opening andantino has this suspension – long tones that feel like a glass being set down, or a pause in conversation where everything is warm and unhurried. It’s meant to feel conversational, intimate. There is a lot of pizzicato writing to make it feel more playful and textural, like background chatter or little clinks of cutlery. There’s something cathartic about it – that sense of release you get from being surrounded by people who feel like home, even if you haven’t known them too long.
